Customer Highlight — Broncho

Harkening back to punk rock’s glory days of the 70s, Oklahoma outfit BRONCHO captures the aggression, DIY authenticity and youthful exhilaration of a bygone era and then drags it by the hair into the Here and Now, creating a fresh sound that’s unlike anything being played today. With echoes of The Replacements, Iggy and the Stooges and The Ramones, BRONCHO’s exuberant ten song debut Can’t Get Past the Lips is a blisteringly cathartic 20 minute flash of gritty, crunching guitar work supported by an assaultive rhythm section and made whole by songwriter Ryan Lindsey’s aggressive, yelping vocal work.

Released in conjunction with Oklahoma-based record label (and killer record stores) Guest Room Records, Broncho’s latest LP, Can’t Get Past The Lips, will be available on wax on August 20 at the exclusive Guest Room Records Broncho/Shitty Awesome Release Party (and available everywhere after that)!

Customer Highlight — Moon High

If you missed your chance to grab a copy of the brand new Moon High album Six Suns at the release party on July 16, then we highly recommend that you hit up your local indie retailer or the band directly to grab a copy now!

You can also catch the band live at Skully’s in Columbus, Ohio on August 5!

Moon High began in 2007 as a home recording project between two like-minded Ohio musicians. Their auspicious self-titled debut was released the following year and prompted the duo to recruit additional members to adapt their multi-layered sounds on stage. After a couple years of member changes, ongoing praise, and honing their live performance, Moon High has evolved into a tight-knit quartet determined to play their own brand of melodious folk tunes.

Six Suns is bookended with the band’s more elegant instrumental pieces and dances between up tempo, country-tinged pop songs, dreamy laments, and moments of near rock-and-roll. In the years since their debut release, Moon High has emerged sounding more confident and at home in their songcraft; ‘Six Suns’ shows the band coming into it’s own, reveling in what’s been uncovered along the way.

Hit up the band up here.

Customer Highlight — The Sunshine Factory

The Sunshine Factory exists on a foundation of juxtapositions. Here is a band from the Gulf Coast of the U.S. channeling the spirits of late ’80s/early’90s U.K. Thames Valley subversion – two seemingly disparate environments. Band founder Ian Taylor, worked solo until 2010 then added vocalist/bassist Sally Robertson. Ian sought inspiration from a variety of sources – including the engrossing and mystical Byzantine chant music he enjoyed with his Eastern Orthodox upbringing. Ian was first drawn to the energy of punk and metal as a young teen. As he grew into his late teens, Ian began looking for something more. He discovered that same intensity and more in shoegaze and psychedelic music and as they say, the rest is history!

While true to the cannon of shoegaze and psychedelia, The Sunshine Factory infuses the foundational aspects of these genres with diffuse elements from the mellotron-laden paisley underground to ancient chants. The Sunshine Factory weaves these mosaic tapestries as they continue their serendipitous journey of juxtaposition. The music is resplendent with whammified sonic assaults, electronic flourishes, and classic psychedelic instrumentation. The Sunshine Factory is at the same time fulfilling the dreams of shoegazers past and blazing new trails into the future. They are playing their part in a wonderful and ever expanding movement of sight and sound.

Available now on vinyl directly from the band is the latest Sunshine Factory album — Sugar.

Customer Highlight — Mercy Academy

Mercy Academy started with the inception of Lorna-Mae Ward and Christofer Lincoln. Christofer Lincoln, reprising his role as singer/songwriter after Lincoln and the Lost Prayers, teamed up with vocalist Lorna-Mae Ward to create the new Tails LP;  produced by Troy Williams at Velvet Audio. Also rounding out the outfit is accomplished guitarist Phil Najjar, and bassist John Sloan. The songs and lyrics, written by Christofer, are dark, moody, almost fairytale like interpretations of folk and country leanings. Hence the album title. Proudly pressed here at GGR, the record will be available from the band in the next few days….

Customer Highlight — Caboladies

Recorded from 2009-2011, during which time Caboladies members Eric Lanham and Chris Bush relocated from Kentucky to Chicago, Renewable Destination constitutes the duo’s most refined and focused work to date. Both as a collaborative unit and under solo monikers Carl Calm and Flower Man, Lanham and Bush have produced a wealth of limited-run releases in recent years on labels such as Arbor, Dekorder, Digitalis, and on their own Smooth Tapes imprint — each of which document their uniquely fractured sonic sensibilities. Perhaps what amazes fans most about the pair’s work is the sheer diversity of their palettes.

This extremely limited edition LP is now available from Students of Decay.

Customer Highlight — In One Wind

In what seem like meager beginnings, In One Wind has blossomed from a one man act into a full fledged six piece ensemble, with a sound and reputation all their own. The brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Angelo Spagnolo, In One Wind also features vocalists Mallory Glaser and Lily Claire Nussbaum, bassist Rob Lundberg, percussionist Max Jaffe and multi-reedist Steven Lugerner.

Though steeped in the tradition of folk music, In One Wind incorporates a wide range of influences from jazz to country, even stretching effortlessly into the world of improvised music and the avant-garde. The ability to start a show with soft guitar strums and whispered vocals while seamlessly breaking into odd-metered grooves and lush three part harmonies enraptures their audiences. In One Wind is truly an idiosyncratic ensemble, an ensemble that appropriately represents their home – Brooklyn, NY – where they have quickly established a solid footing in the greater New York music scene.

Stay tuned to inonewind.com to see how you can grab a copy of their latest LP, How Bright A Shadow.

Customer Highlight — Sondre Lerche

Praised by Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Stereogum, Filter and Entertainment Weekly among others for his experimentation with contrasting musical sounds, Sondre Lerche‘s self-titled album is the artist’s sixth full-length and his first on his own label, Mona Records. An artistic statement of purpose, this fittingly self-titled album contains not only Sondre’s most interesting arrangements and catchy songwriting to date, but also some of his most somber and introspective.
