Record Highlight — Algernon Cadwallader

Algernon Cadwallader is Tank Bergman, Peter Helmis, and Joe Reinhart — three friends from Philadelphia that grew up playing loud, sloppy, fun music. They have all played together in different bands, with different people, but this lineup seems to stick. They like to do things themselves. Pete makes the t-shirt designs. They print all the shirts in their warehouse. Joe records and mixes all the music in his studio. They book our own tours. Tank likes drums. The best way to get in touch with them about playing (they love to play) is emailing them.

We pressed their new Parrot Files LP last month, and they already sold out of the first pressing!  Not to worry though, we’ll be pressing up another 1,000 LP’s early in the New Year, so be sure to hit them up if you haven’t grabbed one yet.

Record Highlight — Tenderizor

Touch The Sword is the debut album from desert thrash-noise shredlords Tenderizor. Layers of distortion disguised as speed-power-metal epics. Eight songs of brutality, mastered by Lorin Edwin Parker of Electric Western Studios. Run your fingers along the blade….

Customer Highlight — Cyclopean Records / Slaughter Strike

This is the first [of hopefully many] Cyclopean Records pressed here at GGR — Slaughter Strike‘s new 12″ EP entitled At Life’s End.

Crafted by veterans of the Canadian Death/thrash/grind world, the newest offering since their debut cassette A Litany of Vileness will prove them to be even more of a filthy, priest-stomping monster that wants to devour your being through unrelenting metal. Fans of Bill Steer era Napalm Death, Repulsion, and Discharge will find ’em to be true brethren, and a limited pressing on vinyl means that it would be foolish to pass this one up.  (An extremely limited number of colored records were pressed in addition to black).

Customer Highlight — The Artificial Heart

The Artificial Heart, based in Austin, TX, is set to release their new self-titled LP on sexy red vinyl today!  You can grab a copy here (pre-orders will get a copy signed by the band!)

The Artificial Heart is the latest in a line of musical endeavors from Rory Allen Phillips, member and songwriter of bands such as The Impossibles, The Stereo and Slowreader (all Fueled By Ramen Alumni) as well as a producer for bands such as Recover, Young Love, The Higher, Name Taken and Soft.

Rory is joined by former Impossible Craig Tweedy on bass (arguably the best bass player on god’s green earth) with Scott Clapsaddle on guitar (your next guitar hero) with ? holding down the backbeat.

Initially entitled ‘Rory and The Artificial Heart’ the band began playing shows in 2006 and continue to bring the rock even when it’s probably not appropriate.

While cleaning out the extruder after running these records we got a lot of red vinyl excess....well, we just couldn't resist making this vinyl artificial heart for the band.

Customer Highlight — Stone Axe

All it took was one listen, and everyone here at GGR became huge fans of this band.  Get yourself a copy here!

STONE AXE was formed in Bremerton Washington in 2008
by Tony Reed(Mos Generator/Treepeople) and Dru Brinkerhoff
(The Swinos)with the intention of recreating and preserving
the sounds of rock music from the 1970s. In 2009 Stone Axe
released their first full length ‘STONE AXE’ and then the tour EP
‘EXTENDED PLAY’ in time for their first US tour which included
Mykey Haslip(drums) & Mike DuPont(bass). During the first year
they also released three 7” singles and a 10” vinyl ep. The new album
‘STONE AXE II’ keeps the spirit of the 1970s fully intact. If ‘self
titled’ is 1968-71, then ‘stone axe II’ is ‘71-’74.

If you were to hear this album without the aid of any background information on its origins, your instincts would probably tell you it was 60’s-era rock, carefully unearthed from the vaults of an overlooked rock band along the lines of Free or Cream. The fact that it’s a new recording is a testament to the precision with which the group crafts not only their songs, but their sound. If you feel like you’ve exhausted your classic rock options, this is a great place to get a fresh start.
