Customer Highlight — Seabrook Power Plant

Brandon Seabrook writes all the music for Seabrook Powerplant. His brother, Jared Seabrook is on drums and Tom Blancarte plays bass.
The influence of fleet-fingered Guitar Gods was part of Seabrook’s make-up from the beginning. He first picked up the instrument, as did so many other 8-year-olds, due to the inspiration of Eddie Van Halen. And also like so many before him, he soon found that his own hands couldn’t manage those same gymnastics, and he began casting around for other idols. The path led through Jimmy Page, to Jim Hall, to D. Boon of punk pioneers The Minutemen and finally around to Van Halen again.
It was a love of this sort of percussive sound that led Seabrook to the banjo in the first place, when he borrowed one from the Conservatory’s instrument library. I’m really into drums,” he explains, “and the banjo was the closest thing I could get to a drum with strings. I was into it as a dead instrument, with not much sustain, which was kind of attractive to me since it was the opposite of the guitar.”

Hot off the GGR presses, Seabrook Power Plant II will be available to the public in March (can you believe it’s already almost March?).  Stay tuned to Loyal Label and Brandon Seabrook for updates!

Customer Highlight — Quiet Life

Quiet Life is a candle with ecstatic wax and wick, modern burn and recycled light. Their blend of classic country/folk and indie/rock is one of the most genuine combinations being fused across modern America. Hailing from the whaling city of New London, Connecticut, this four-member rock outfit has all the sincerity of their great folk predecessors, influenced by the true honesty of American folk music and the raw expression of rock and roll’s forefathers. Four boys with the enthusiasm of a young Bruce Springsteen and an undying determination to be heard, anxious to stay true to the roots of rock and roll, while adding a flavor of the new.

Quiet Life’s brand new album Big Green officially streets this coming Tuesday.  As with most Safety Meeting Records releases, the limited edition first pressing features a digital download code and deluxe packaging and liner notes.  Hit up your local indie store to grab a copy!

Vinyl Records 3.0 Challenges and Rewards

Official SXSW panel announcement!

What is the role of vinyl LP in current acts in the marketplace today? The purpose of this panel is to explain and show in depth the role of vinyl in the music marketplace. Panelists will discuss vinyl as the most important tangible music medium. Following explanations of why any band or artist should produce vinyl and which acts are more likely to benefit and why they will benefit from pressing vinyl, they will walk the artist through the process of production including options for customizations; including coloring, cutting, time expectancy, pricing, self-marketing, and selling at the independent retail level. The explanation of the edge that vinyl has over any other music medium in the marketplace today as well as the pros of producing vinyl in an mp3 dominated music medium era will be addressed.

If you are going to SXSW, be sure to hit it up!  There are also a couple of other panels covering various facets of making records.  Read more at sxsw.com.

Customer Highlight — The Mural and The Mint

The Mural and The Mint are dedicated to releasing all recordings for free in some format, because they believe that this is the only way for them to be heard as music. The name for the project came from the city of Philadelphia, home to more murals than any other city in the country, and to the Franklin Mint.

We were honored when Michael Kiley approached us to press the latest release by The Mural and The Mint, As The Eyes of The Seahorse on extremely limited white vinyl.  You can grab a copy at their shows, several of which are this coming weekend.
