Mercy Academy started with the inception of Lorna-Mae Ward and Christofer Lincoln. Christofer Lincoln, reprising his role as singer/songwriter after Lincoln and the Lost Prayers, teamed up with vocalist Lorna-Mae Ward to create the new Tails LP; produced by Troy Williams at Velvet Audio. Also rounding out the outfit is accomplished guitarist Phil Najjar, and bassist John Sloan. The songs and lyrics, written by Christofer, are dark, moody, almost fairytale like interpretations of folk and country leanings. Hence the album title. Proudly pressed here at GGR, the record will be available from the band in the next few days….
Recorded from 2009-2011, during which time Caboladies members Eric Lanham and Chris Bush relocated from Kentucky to Chicago, Renewable Destination constitutes the duo’s most refined and focused work to date. Both as a collaborative unit and under solo monikers Carl Calm and Flower Man, Lanham and Bush have produced a wealth of limited-run releases in recent years on labels such as Arbor, Dekorder, Digitalis, and on their own Smooth Tapes imprint — each of which document their uniquely fractured sonic sensibilities. Perhaps what amazes fans most about the pair’s work is the sheer diversity of their palettes.
This extremely limited edition LP is now available from Students of Decay.
In what seem like meager beginnings, In One Wind has blossomed from a one man act into a full fledged six piece ensemble, with a sound and reputation all their own. The brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Angelo Spagnolo, In One Wind also features vocalists Mallory Glaser and Lily Claire Nussbaum, bassist Rob Lundberg, percussionist Max Jaffe and multi-reedist Steven Lugerner.
Though steeped in the tradition of folk music, In One Wind incorporates a wide range of influences from jazz to country, even stretching effortlessly into the world of improvised music and the avant-garde. The ability to start a show with soft guitar strums and whispered vocals while seamlessly breaking into odd-metered grooves and lush three part harmonies enraptures their audiences. In One Wind is truly an idiosyncratic ensemble, an ensemble that appropriately represents their home – Brooklyn, NY – where they have quickly established a solid footing in the greater New York music scene.
Stay tuned to inonewind.com to see how you can grab a copy of their latest LP, How Bright A Shadow.

Praised by Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Stereogum, Filter and Entertainment Weekly among others for his experimentation with contrasting musical sounds, Sondre Lerche‘s self-titled album is the artist’s sixth full-length and his first on his own label, Mona Records. An artistic statement of purpose, this fittingly self-titled album contains not only Sondre’s most interesting arrangements and catchy songwriting to date, but also some of his most somber and introspective.

Greg Brown, accomplished songwriter, co-founder of the influential indie roots label Red House and former musical director for Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion radio program, is a prolific songwriter…and it’s a good thing. As the result of a fateful lighting strike on the studio where he was working, Brown lost the recordings that were to comprise his next album. For most artists, losing that much material would have been a creatively scarring and demoralizing experience. For Greg, it was just an excuse to turn inward once again, and write more songs.
Of the songs that came to comprise his 24th album Freak Flag, the title track is all that remains of that ill-fated lost original album. Greg wrote ten new songs, moving on to record them at Memphis, Tennessee’s legendary Ardent Studios. This time there were no storms, but creative lightning did strike again, resulting in what many have called Greg’s best album. Like a jagged stone worked by ocean waves, Brown’s signature rough hewn-yet-velvet-smooth baritone is in fine form on Freak Flag. Produced by Bo Ramsey, the album also includes a cover of Brown’s wife Iris Dement’s “Let the Mystery Be” and Brown’s daughter Pieta’s song “Remember the Sun.” Available at indie stores everywhere now!
