Record Highlight — Two Cow Garage

Columbus, Ohio’s Two Cow Garage is reissuing their monumental 2004 record – The Wall Against Our Back on an extremely limited edition pressing of red 180 gram waxGrab it while you can!

Words from TCG’s Shane Sweney on the record:

After two years of almost constant touring on our first record, Please Turn the Gas Back On, in 2004 we decided to seclude ourselves in the ranch land of north Texas and record the songs that we had been hammering on over that long stretch of touring. We had no idea what the reaction would be to Wall Against Our Back. It just all happened so fast, and we were all so focused on doing it, that we had little time to postulate on what anyone else’s thoughts would be about it. As it turns out, and lucky for us, people did care, more than we ever could have hoped for. As we continued to tour and record, The Wall Against Our Back became a distant blur in the rearview mirror of our catalogue of songs. And soon we let it fall by the wayside and go out of print. Yet, it’s a struggle to think of a show where there hasn’t been at least one person requesting us to play a song “Off of that red record . . .” And now we’re doing something about it. Through the years TCG has moved progressively away from Wall’s sound musically, but we are no less proud of The Wall Against Our Back. It’s nice to welcome this record back into the fold. Thanks for sticking with it, and us.

Record Highlight — The Soft Drugs

TW Walsh
started The Soft Drugs project in 2005, when he was living in Washington State. They ultimately made two EPs. The first (In Moderation) was recorded with a group of friends on the west coast and released in 2006. The second, Get Back Side A, was recorded and released in 2008 with a new lineup in Boston.

Each of these EPs have been released digitally and in limited CD runs. But, people have always asked for these on vinyl – so, TW started a Kickstarter campaign to put them both on one colored vinyl LP, one EP per side, with brand new artwork.  The records will also be available very soon from the Undertow Music Collective.

Record Highlight — Taco Leg

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk215/DNAINTHEDNA/TacoLegcover.jpg

Taco Leg’s self-titled LP wastes no time in making its mark, its 12 tracks clocking in at just under 20 minutes. Many of these tracks barely crack the minute mark, but like their Perth punk ancestors from the Victims to Extortion, their songs are direct and lodge in your brain until you find yourself thinking about “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. If you’re familiar with Taco Leg, the elements are all there – minimal guitar lines and stripped-down, proto-punk drumming, with singer Murray’s unforgettable voice intoning cryptic lyrics. This is the record where they’ve fully honed their sound, and very nearly have learned how to play their instruments. Whether it’s on the shambling swagger of “Shut It Down,” self described “Detroit hardcore” song “Find Me,” or the tension of “I Can’t Decide” (not a Black Flag cover), Taco Leg perfectly encapsulate the feeling of being young and bored without being boring.  Grab a copy from Fan Death Records.

Record Highlight — Sikes

Sikes is an indie hip hop artist from Pittsburgh, and we just finished pressing his new record.  Here’s a really rad video example of how creative you can get wild with vinyl releases — also, it shows a great example of what Random Color Vinyl looks like when you order from GGR – (an often-asked question). Enjoy!

Record Highlight — Rogue Valley

rogue valley at the cedar

Rogue Valley is an Americana-Rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. In one years time, they wrote, recorded, and released four full length albums, one with each season. The albums and songs therein come together to tell a story of love and loss; of wanderlust and consequence and of how relationships change over time and distance. The Seasons LP, a compilation of tracks from these four albums will be released this Saturday, November 24.

Record Highlight — Charlie Hunter

Not Getting Behind Is The New Getting Ahead, the renowned guitarist/composer Charlie Hunter‘s new duo recording with drummer Scott Amendola, is an album that’s easy to get behind. A complete departure from last year’s Public Domain—a true solo album—and the previous year’s Gentlemen, I Neglected to Inform You You Will Not Be Getting Paid—which incorporated two trombones and trumpet into Hunter’s instrumental arsenal—Not Getting Behind Is The New Getting Ahead (Release Date: October 2, 2012) is Hunter’s first recording of original compositions in three years. It’s also, perhaps, his most candid and forthright set of songs ever.

“Our intention in making this record was to tell a bunch of stories around the central theme of the album’s title,” says Hunter. “The new tunes are meant to evoke some of the things you might see in your travels through the USA these days. Scott and I wanted to think of each composition as a starting point for some kind of narrative.”

Recorded with Hunter and Amendola playing in the same room simultaneously—an old-school recording method that has been virtually lost in today’s cut-and-paste world—Not Getting Behind Is The New Getting Ahead was written by Hunter while at home, inspired by his touring. “I love the nooks and crannies of the U.S., and this album is for the people living in these places.”

Order the record today, and be sure to check out the tour!
