Record Highlight — Luna

In celebration of our 3-year anniversary this month, we are excited to announce the release of Luna‘s 1994 album Bewitched!

August 21, 2012 will mark the first vinyl release of this timeless album by Luna, and is also the first release on our very own Private Label imprint!  Grab it from independent record stores nationally!

Thanks to Dean Wareham, Rhino Entertainment, and everyone else involved who helped us to make this vinyl release a reality!

Record Highlight — Janis Martin

We are proud to have pressed The Blanco Sessions — the final recordings from Janis Martin, a founding mother of Rock and Roll.

Because of her enthusiasm, brilliant stage presence and rocking vocal style, Martin was also known as “the Female Elvis”.  She had a hit with “Will You, Will Yum”/”Drugstore Rock and Roll” in 1956. In 2007, near the end of Janis’s life, she and Rosie Flores worked together with Bobby Trimble to produce 11 new songs. Sadly, cancer cut her life short and she never got to tour behind the long awaited album.  This album will finally be available on CD and Vinyl in September, courtesy of Cow Island Music.

Record Highlight — Meek Is Murder

Hailing from Brooklyn, MIM delivers a heaviness displayed through a dark and seriously chaotic metal event.  Recorded by Converge’s Kurt Ballou, this metalmathpunk masterpiece traffics a dense art that shifts deftly from dirgey downtuned sludge to crazed hyperdense metalcore fury.  Algorithms was originally released in 2011 via MetalSucks, but still sounds fresh, especially on vinyl!

2012 TOUR DATES

Aug 19 The Worthen House Lowell, MA
Aug 20 Lit Lounge New York, NY
Aug 21 Kung Fu Necktie Philadelphia, PA
Aug 22 Ottobar Baltimore, MD
Aug 23 Kopec Pittsburgh, PA
Aug 25 Township Chicago, IL

Record Highlight — Such Gold

Misadventures isn’t just the title of Rochester, New York-based melodic hardcore band Such Gold‘s debut full-length- as Nate Derby explains, it’s a way of life.

Misadventures, is 28 minutes of pure aggression that will quicken your pulse and make you think. Derby and drummer Devan Bentley write much of the music, while frontman Ben Kotin and guitarist Skylar pen much of the lyrics. It’s that collaborative mindset that allows the band to take risks together, even if it means agonizing over each and every song. “We’re not a band that can just sit down and bang out a record in a week,” Derby admits. “It takes me forever to write a song even to a point where I can bring it to our drummer Devan and write stuff with him.”

“Our producer was all about capturing the band for it’s live energy, too. We mapped out the tempos, so it really feels like you’re listening to us live,” explains drummer Bentley. He continues “I’m really happy that we were able to capture my own drum sounds on this record. No samples replacing all the hits, no crazy amounts of editing. It’s me hitting those drums. Same goes with everyone’s playing, especially Ben.”

Record Highlight — I Am What I Am

Yep Roc Records has always followed the path of the artists it claims, meaning that its image has been forever fluid, an open matrix for music that’s worth hearing. This compilation is released in conjunction with the Yep Roc 15, the 15th anniversary of the label’s inception. Curated especially for their birthday celebration, it includes artists and songs spanning the past fifteen years of Yep Roc’s history.  Streets 09.04.12.

Record Highlight — The Nightmare River Band

Making music about “love, loss, pain, drinking and healing,” although not necessarily in that order, The Nightmare River Band was named one of the Top 5 up and coming Alt-Folk bands in NYC by Deli Magazine in 2010. Crowds of revelers have been quick to join the party, clamoring to shout along the lyrics with drinks clutched in their hands.

In between playing shows, downing pints and winning over critics, core members Matt Krahula (vocals, guitar, ukulele) and Seth Faulk (drums, vocals) managed to find time to write and record a follow up to their 2009 debut Call The Cops! The new album, Last Goodbye, offers up standouts such as “Mary.” A demo of that song was nominated for an Independent Music Award for best Alt-Country song of 2010. The full version combines all of the ingredients of The Nightmare River Band’s potent blend: foot-stomping rhythms, full arrangements, and a harmonious chorus that everyone can sing along to – even after consuming more than a few beers.

Record Highlight — Dads

Dads are a two-piece emo/punk band from New Brunswick, NJ. They will be releasing their first proper full length entitled American Radass (this is important), which was recorded at Format Audio (My Heart to Joy & The World Is…) by the amazing Ryan Stack. Dads will be performing at I Got Brains! Fest in August and will be touring the entire US throughout the fall.

Pre-order is up at Flannel Gurl Records (orders start shipping August 7th).

Record Highlight — Nick Ferrio

Nick Ferrio is a country singer and songwriter from Peterborough, Ontario.  You might know Nick as the silly and fun-loving bassist in The Burning Hell. But since before Nick joined The Burning Hell six years ago, he has been quietly working away on his own songs. Now, for the first time he is branching out into a solo career.

Nick’s music is at once honest and filled with tall tales. His version of country music contains shades of some of country’s greatest storytellers, likening to Tom T Hall, Willie Nelson and George Jones.  Joined by Ryan Perks on lead guitar, Emmott Clancy on drums, Liam Wilson on bass, Chris Altmann on pedal steel, Caylie Staples and Spencer Burton (of The Grey Kingdom) on harmony vocals, Nick Ferrio & His Feelings made a record of country music the way it was recorded generations ago – with ribbon mics and tape machines.

Stay tuned to Shuffling Feet Records for the official release of this new LP.

Record Highlight — Black Light Burns

The Moment You Realize You’re Going To Fall, is Black Light Burn‘s new album streeting on August 14.  The record is getting the vinyl treatment courtesy of Rocket Science and Brookvale Records.

The special hand-numbered 2LP set features artwork by the band’s own Wes Borland (of Limp Bizkit fame), and the highlighter-yellow A/B record in the set actually glows under black light!

The pre-order at Brookvale is up now!
