Customer Highlight — Canyons/Tigon/Foreign Theaters

From the hot-boxed catacombs of mathcore-meets-stoner-metal, comes the heaviest 3-way split this year from Missouri’s Canyons and Foreign Theaters, and the Bay Area’s Tigon. Sharing influences that range from Coalesce and Kylesa to Black Sabbath and The Melvins, these three “math-sludge” virtuosos deliver a formidable testament to how grimey, raw, and technical the recesses of hardcore can go.

This limited edition pressing of 500 copies is a result of the collaboration between Melotov Records and Mayfly Records. Grab a copy today!

Customer Highlight — Second Academy

Thanks to Tsurumi Records for enlisting GGR to press the limited edition Second Academy Bohemian Grove LP on translucent pearl color wax!

As easily as The Second Academy can craft playful lo-fi rock melodies, you’re quickly reminded that a cunning snake lies below. Throbbing rock anthems twist in and out of more melodic and often experimental moments throughout the album.

You can pre-order the LP (which also includes a copy on CD) now.  All web orders also get a link to download an advance copy digitally!

Customer Highlight — Less Than Jake

Hot off a European and Japanese tour, Less Than Jake‘s limited edition color 7″ for the TV EP is finally available!  This EP features killer renditions of classic and modern television show theme songs (plus the Freecreditreport.com song).

The guys will be staying busy with many upcoming U.S. tour dates in 2011.  So, as they say in TV land….stay tuned!  (sorry, had to do it).

Chris Allen-Acetate

Who is the hardest working man in show business?  It could well be Cleveland’s own Chris Allen.  The leader of the much-loved now defunct Rosavelt,  besides his active solo career, he currently plays in The Lonesome Stars, The Scar Lovers, The Boys From The County Hell and the holiday season collective,  The Ohio City Singers.

Produced by the legendary Don Dixon,  Acetate is Chris’ third solo release, and the first committed to vinyl.  Take it from Dixon himself;  “Chris Allen is the most underrated songwriter in the country.  People like Jeff Tweedy and Ryan Adams ought to be hiding outside his house going through his trash looking for castoff material. Chris has a laser eye. ‘Acetate’ is my favorite, but I love every record I’ve done with him.”

Customer Highlight — The Christmas Gig

Thanks to Wieden + Kennedy and Target for enlisting GGR to press two extremely limited edition 7″ singles and a special clear-vinyl LP for Target’s The Christmas Gig!

Target commissioned several indie artists to create holiday songs to be used in a variety of Target commercials, and these songs are featured on the two 7″ singles and full-length album we have been manufacturing over the past few months.  As a bonus, Target has made all of the songs available as free downloads, and is also allowing consumers to share them through email and social networks as branded Christmas cards!

Snow Is Falling” by Darker My Love was performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (12.14.10)….and sure enough — that record he’s holding in front of the camera in the video below, we are proud to say it’s one of our very own.

We at GGR all wish you and yours the very best Holiday season and Happy New Year!

Seth Faergolzia of Dufus is touring the Northeast this December in support of Dufus’ final album,  Eth, released independently (fan funded) on CD and 12″ LP.  He’ll be performing solo acoustic with percussion, electronics and some prerecorded materials.

Here are a few upcoming shows:

Customer Highlight — Heks Orkest

Thanks to Youth Conspiracy Records for enlisting GGR to press the first Heks Orkest 7″ – you can grab a copy here, or check out the band at any of their live shows and grab one there!  (PS- if you happen to be in the Richmond, VA vicinity, you can catch them at their record release show with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists at Strange Matter tonight – Dec 8 at 7:30 pm).

Customer Highlight — Fungi Girls

Welcome to another solid 7″ release from our buds over at Group Tightener — Fungi Girls Owsley Knows / Glare #2 7″.

Fungi Girls are three high school kids from Texas. They’ve released records on Hozac, Play Pinball and Psychic Lunch. For their Group Tightener release, the trio recorded twin bursts of catchy garage-psych that will force its way into your brain and probably chill there for months and months. Throw it in the jukebox and drop the quarter in…over and over. Limited to 500 copies!
