Customer Highlight — Buried Beds

Phew! We finished pressing the brand new LP for Philly-based Buried Beds just in time for their extensive tour starting TONIGHT in DC, at the 9:30 Club.  They will be touring with Dr. Dog throughout the next couple of weeks, and then with Murder By Death through the end of March.  Check out a list of their tour dates here.

Formed as a warehouse duo in 2003 by old friends Eliza Jones and Brandon Beaver, “Buried Beds” grew over several years into a chamber group of banjos, string quartets, electric guitars, broken glass, and aching harmonies. Their Americana influenced melancholy won them “Best Band” in Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philly 2004” issue and a spot on the Believer Magazine’s yearly music compilation. They went on to record the lush and beautiful “Empty Rooms” in 2005.

Be sure to grab a hot-off-the-press copy of this brand new album, Tremble The Sails!  On the album, Buried Beds trades delicate banjos for dueling guitars to create a landscape where love, death and your future-self throw a party. After recording drums and bass on the awesome tape machine at the Dr. Dog studio, the album was recorded almost entirely in their pajamas in Eliza’s living room. It was mixed by Nick Krill of The Spinto Band and came to life. The album is more alive than the first; maintaining a focus on careful arrangements but summoning the chaos and energy of Rock and Roll.

Customer Highlight — Shark?

We are extremely excited to announce that Oops Baby Records chose GGR to press their very first release —  the very first U.S.  7″ by the Brooklyn-based buzz band, Shark? !   The 7″ won’t be available for purchase for a couple of weeks, so stay tuned to the Oops Baby website for updates.

By their own definition, Shark? sounds like “the briny deep. Songs soaked in ocean mist. Business in the front, rows and rows of razor sharp teeth in the back. Vague and unsettling. Perpetual forward motion. Or death.”  You can judge for yourself by checking them out here.

Customer Highlight — Ultimate Fakebook

Thanks to Rocket Heart Records for enlisting GGR to press their Kickstarter-backed reissue of the seminal first album by Kansas rockers, Ultmate Fakebook.  The album, Electric Kissing Parties, is available as a limited edition black vinyl package, or an ultra-limited (only 100 copies) RED vinyl package.

You can grab one form Rocket Heart while supplies last!

Customer Highlight — Fujiya & Miyagi

After two years experimenting in the shadows, cutting edge minimalist-funk heroes Fujiya & Miyagi are back with their darkest and most propulsive set yet. The band’s fourth full-lengther, Ventriloquizzing has a dark heart, via its throbbing electro-glam beat and menacing lyrics. “I think there’s an underlying anger, or perhaps just annoyance, at institutions and people in general, and probably ourselves too,” says singer/guitarist David Best. “And it also seemed like the right time to work with someone else to help us avoid going to our default setting,” which the band combated by bringing in a co-producer for the first time in the form of famed producer Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart, Vetiver, Pernice Brothers) –their first time not self-producing.

Paste magazine calls the album “another installment in their ongoing British beach dance party.” Click HERE to read the full review now.

You can preorder the album now at the Yep Roc Webshop — Every pre-order includes a bonus MP3 of the long-player mix by Fujiya & Miyagi titled “Different Blades from the Same Pair of Scissors” in your Stash available on street date along with the full digital album.

Customer Highlight — Get Up Kids

This is the first brand new album in over 7 years from The Get Up Kids!  The band used a completely analog process to record the album, so this 180 gram vinyl pressing gives the listener the music in its truest and intended form.  The band self-released the record on its own label, Quality Hill Records.

Available on LP (including digital download code) at indie record stores nationally on 01/25/11. You can also pre-order a deluxe package featuring the LP and download, plus a silk screened poster, limited edition t-shirt and tote bag, and 5 signed photo cards!

Customer Highlight — Gang Of Four

Gang of Four‘s Content is the first album of all-new material in over 15 years, featuring 11 new songs written by Andy Gill & Jon King.

Andy & Jon say:
“We have been working on new songs for some time. Here they are, on our new album titled C O N T E N T. The tracks are simple: vocals, guitar, bass, drums. It is a tough, loud sound. A number of the tracks have dual vocals where we swap the lead to tell different parts of a story. We write about daily life but where the point of view is often contradictory or conflicted. Sometimes it’s a drama or dialogue, sometimes it’s an imagined situation with contradictory voices or commentary (like “He’d Send In The Army” or, on the new album, ” Do As I Say”) where there’s a quasi conversation between a religious inquisitor and someone burning at the stake, where they both agree they’re two sides of the same coin. What we strive for in all of our songs, is to interpret the world in a way you haven’t seen nor thought of before. We feel you’ll hear this in C O N T E N T.”

You will be able to grab a copy on thick GGR-pressed 180 gram wax at indie retailers in the U.S. on 01/25/11 (01/24 in the UK)….or you can pre-order before and get instant access to three non-album tracks!

Customer Highlight — Philistines Jr

If A Band Plays In The Woods is the first record in 9 years by the seminal indie rock band The Philistines Jr.  It features performances by Peter Katis of The National, Interpol, Swell Season, Jonsi, Frightened Rabbit & We Were Promised Jetpacks fame.

We were honored to have been picked to press an extremely limited edition pressing of this record.  Coming very soon to select indie retail outlets (also available from the artist).
