Customer Highlight — Converge

Here comes another amazing release from Deathwish Inc. (cd is available through Epitaph) —  Converge‘s 2006 album entitled No Heroes came hot off the presses here at GGR a few weeks ago.  The LP (available in three different vinyl colors) is available for purchase from Deathwish, and select retailers around the country.

No Heroes, is known for how the band brilliantly combines the textural sonics of 2004’s You Fail Me with the brutal assault of 2001’s Jane Doe.

Customer Highlight — The Hot Seats

The Hot Seats were formed eight years ago (2002) in Richmond, VA as a good-time band between new friends, many of whom were exploring a genre unknown to them on equally novel instruments. It started with weekly gig, rapidly followed by trips out of town, festival appearances, longer tours, new music, new influences, competition-winning performances (both individually and as an ensemble) three critically acclaimed trips to the UK, and five albums.

The band’s Graham DeZarn enlisted GGR to press their latest EP on black 7″ vinyl.  You can grab a copy from the band at one of their shows, or reach out to them at thehotseats[at]gmail[dot]com.

Customer Highlight — Graveface Records

Recently, we were approached by the Chicago-based record label Graveface Records to press a special glow-in-the-dark 7″ by the band The Marshmallow Ghosts.  As a bonus, Ryan and Michael from Graveface happened to be driving through Cleveland when the records were finished, so we got to meet them in person…we always love that.  Thanks guys!

Stay tuned to the Graveface Records website for when this extremely cool 7″ release comes out in October!

Customer Highlight – Margaret Cho

Our first time pressing a comedy record!  On this brand new 180 gram vinyl release from Redeye/Yep Roc, Margaret Cho collaborates with artists such as Andrew Bird, Tegan and Sara, Jon Brion, Fiona Apple, Brendan Benson and others on comedy songs.  Available at indie retailers (and the official Margaret Cho website)!

Customer Highlight — Count Your Lucky Stars

Count Your Lucky Stars is a really cool label, and we are fortunate enough to have been hired to press two of their 7″ releases (with one more currently in the cue too).

The first was the Into It Over it / Pswingset split 7″, which happened to be the second installment in the 12 Towns series by Into It Over It (see 9/7/10 GGR post for another installment in the series).  The second was the Football, Etc. self-titled 7″, released in early September.

Definitely watch for the official launch of the NEW Count Your Lucky Stars online store, launching TOMORROW (09/22/10)!  You can grab these two 7″, along with a whole bunch of other records and merch there.

Customer Highlight — Jukebox The Ghost

Jukebox the Ghost have passionate fans. Fans who’ve gone so far as to tattoo the band’s name on their body or drive for days to see their shows, or post lovesick monologues dedicated to their glory on YouTube. Through a dogged work ethic and near-obsessive touring — headlining and alongside heavyweights like Ben Folds and Adam Green (The Moldy Peaches) — the band managed to sell over 10,000 copies of their debut album and cultivated the aforementioned rabid fan base. Now, with a fully developed sound and a songwriting and live performance approach seasoned by hundreds upon hundreds of gigs, the band are set to turn heads with sophomore effort Everything Under the Sun, produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National).

Proudly pressed here at GGR on 180 gram wax…..will be available nationally at independent record stores on 09/21/2010!

Customer Highlight — Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women

Proudly pressed by GGR on double 180 gram wax!  Available at indie retailers nationally on 09/21/2010!

Following the recent death of his best friend and Guilty Men accordionist Chris Gaffney in early 2008, Dave Alvin decided to move in an exciting new musical direction. In October 2008 he stepped onto the stage of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival with an all-star, all-female group. Since dubbed The Guilty Women, the group consists of Americana scene vets Cindy Cashdollar, Nina Gerber, Laurie Lewis, Sarah Brown, Amy Farris, Christy McWilson and Lisa Pankratz. Special guests include Marcia Ball and Susie Thompson. The self-titled debut from this unique assemblage of players, led by Alvin, is a spirited collection of thoughtful yet dynamic tunes featuring world-class musicianship worthy of his now legendary pedigree.

Customer Highlight — Paper & Plastick Records/Stephen Egerton

Check out one of the latest vinyl releases from the prolific Paper & Plastick RecordsThe Seven Degrees of Stephen Egerton.  Egerton is best known for his work with The Descendents and All, but since both bands announced hiatuses, he has still been hard at work and is very much involved in the punk community.  This record is available in limited runs of 3 different colors — you can grab them at select indie record stores, and from Paper & Plastick direct.

Customer Highlight — Matt Nowlin Orchestra

This is the first JAZZ album pressed here at GGR, and it’s a pretty great musician to start the genre here.  According to the Matt Nowlin Orchestra website, “The Good News!, the Matt Nowlin Jazz Orchestra’s debut LP, calls to mind Jimmie Lunceford and the arrangements of Sy Oliver, while bringing to the forefront a new voice in jazz writing. In the hands of composer Matt Nowlin, swing is a vibrant feeling rather than a bygone era.”

The record is streeting on October 26 nationally — both online and at independent record stores everywhere!

Customer Highlight — The Kinsey Report

When Kelly Wicks, owner of the Grounds For Thought cafe in Bowling Green, Ohio approached us about pressing this limited edition vinyl-only record by The Kinsey Report, it was one of those daily moments that remind us how amazing a job we all have here.  This record was recorded live at Grounds For Thought and mastered by Thomas Bethel of Acoustik Musik/Room With A View Productions.

You can catch The Kinsey Report (along with a list of several other amazing acts) this weekend at the annual Black Swamp Festival in Bowling Green, Ohio.  Several of us will be trekking over to Northwest Ohio to catch the shows…if you can make it, let’s grab a beer!
