Hailing from New Haven, CT and parts of Western Mass, Iron Hand is a crust/d-beat hardcore band incorporating past and contemporary influences within the genre, such as Discharge, State Of Fear, and Crow. Lyrically, the band addresses its sociopolitical criticisms while also taking opportunity to address personal introspection. The band features current and past members of They And The Children, Estrogen Highs and Last Words (as well as a bunch of others).

Customer Highlight — Urge Overkill

The first new Urge Overkill album in sixteen years, Rock&Roll Submarine marks the return of the 90s alt rock stars to the music world.  The album streets in the U.S. on May 10, and will be available at indie stores everywhere.  Can’t wait until Tuesday?  You can pre-order a copy through Urge Overkill and get instant access to a digital copy!

Urge Overkill spent 1996 in seclusion as they attempted to regroup. By the end of the year, tensions between members Nash Kato and Eddie “King” Roeser had escalated, resulting in Roeser’s departure from the band. Kato and Onassis continued on as a duo, leaving Geffen for 550 Music in early 1997. As the band was preparing its first album for 550 Music, Roeser was replaced with guitarist Nils St. Cyr. However, unhappy with the results, the label soon dropped them, upon which point Urge Overkill disbanded. Nash Kato released his solo debut, Debutante, in early 2000. In 2011, the band, which includes Kato and Roeser along with newbies Bonn Quast (drums) and Hadji Hodgkiss (bass), concluded production on Rock&Roll Submarine.

Customer Highlight — Kyle Bobby Dunn

Ways of Meaning, Kyle Bobby Dunn’s new full-length album and the second release for Desire Path Recordings, is a treatise on the resonance of memory; an attempt to harness the finality of meaning as a shared experience.
Mainly arranged for guitar and organ, the six works contained herein offer a look into Dunn’s mind as an artist deeply concerned with time, memory, consequence, identity, and meaning. Each piece, while created from and inspired by very personal moments, represents a point of transference, allowing the minutiae of experience to pass through the grooves of the vinyl to the listener to act as a salve for our collective emptiness, a catalyst for solace, or a pathway out of our ever-present longing.  Some moments recall church and choral music, others are anthemic in their own quiet way, and sadness finds warm overtones to help quell its cold nature. Spatial qualities are examined thoroughly; clarity is reached when viewing one’s surroundings. The environment comes into focus and a reverie encapsulates the listener. Distant memories spawn a sense of yearning and each moment allows for profound feeling.

While the record is officially released in the U.S on May 23, you can pre-order a copy today through Desire Path!

Customer Highlight — John Grant

John Grant‘s Queen of Denmark was Mojo Magazine‘s 2010 Album of the Year!  So, the fine folks at RedeyeUSA (and Bella Union) were kind enough to set up the the album for official release in the U.S.  This double 180 gram LP will be available for the first time in North America at indie retailers nationally on May 10.  Be sure to hit up your local store to grab one!

Customer Highlight — Nu Sensae

Just out the door for Fast Weapons – FW#10: Nu Sensae Tea Swamp Park b/w Gumbo 7″.  If you are in Portland, be sure to hit up the record release party at The Saratoga on May 19.  Plenty of fresh wax will be there.  Also playing will be Arctic Flowers and White Lung.

Customer Highlight — Twerps

After releases with both Night People and Chapter Music, Australia’s Twerps bring their dark dream-pop to Brooklyn label Group Tightener. This three song 7-inch works as a companion piece (same art split into two) to their recently released 7-inch on Under Water Peoples.

“She Didn’t Know,” begins with a roar of vocals and steadily swings through delicate guitar riffs, rollicking organ jams, and playful puppy dog yelps. The first few moments of the second track, “Anything New,” are a gentle lullaby until the vocals crash in with classic the suburban conundrum of being bored but dreading change. It’s full of delightful wallowing in the desire of an impossible paradox: “I’m gonna be more than a backyard boy” but I also don’t want anything new to happen in my life. The B-side wraps up the record with a devastatingly saccharine winding ballad called “Peculia.”  Limited to 500 copies.  Get it from Group Tightener.

Customer Highlight — Heavy Ripples

This Ripple Music compilation double gatefold 7″ features Stone Axe, Mighty High, Sun Gods in Exile, and Grifter.

Shining the spotlight on a musical movement that’s ready to blast the world back four decades, the Heavy Ripples double 7” compilation features the sonic delights of four up and coming acts who embrace the sounds of rock n’ roll the way it used to be played: aggressive, uncompromising, honest, gritty, and most of all, fun! More than just an ode to the old school ways of rock n’ roll, these four bands embrace the lifestyle and the sounds of a bygone era.

70’s rock preservationists Stone Axe contribute a cover version of the Mos Generator tune, “Nightwolf;” Sun Gods in Exile, on loan from the incomparable Small Stone Records, turn in the southern-tinged “Over My Broken Bones;” the UK’s dirty grit-rockers Grifter offer up two tracks, “Small Man Syndrome” and the tongue-in-cheek nod to porn legend Ron Jeremy, “Hey Ron;” and Brooklyn’s favorite sons of punkified debauchery Mighty High drop the beastly “Hempaphobic.” First pressing is limited to 500 copies — grab one today!
